Heading Up Swedish Online Casino Group
Svenska Spel may be in the midst of the battle for its life but that doesn’t
mean that internal politics stay static. The latest news out of the Swedish
online caisno gambling monopoly comes in the form of a new CEO for the company.
The new CEO, Meta Persdotter, inherits a slew of problems and issues that are at
the forefront of Sweden’s European politics right now. Foreign online casinos
and gambling groups have really begun to publicly tackle Sweden’s continued
state-run monopoly and the European Commission is still standing strong on its
request for the country to open the borders to competition within the online
gambling industry.
The former CEO of Svenska Spel, Jesper Kärrbrink, resigned from his position
roughly six months ago and the long hunt for a new CEO to lead the online casino
gambling group has finally ended with Persdotter’s appointment. Persdotter has
extensive CEO previous CEO experience although no real experience in the online
casino gambling industry in particular. Her previous experience though in
business is needed at the company and the Svenska Spel board anticipates that
her skill base will help the company refocus its vision and expansion
strategies.
There was really no mention of Svenska Spel’s growing problems with the European
Commission and the international online casino gambling industry – most of new
CEO’s statement included a message that focused on her plans to further
strengthen the company’s brand and new product launches going forward into the
New Year. It will be interesting to see Persdotter’s specific opinion on the
foreign competition forcing its way into the Swedish market. |
