Harrah's is Eager

There isn’t a whole lot of support in the U.S. for the legalization of online casino gambling…but there are some land gambling companies that see the very real money-making potential of internet gambling. The US currently has some very questionable restrictions in place that prevent any online casinos from legally accessing the US market. But the legislation keeping domestic and foreign gambling companies out of the market, the UIGEA, is highly flawed and there is a good chance that with the support of the US land gambling industry, that online casinos could be legalized in the US market within the next year or two.

The crux of the current issue for the online casinos is the fact that there is so much resistance from the land gambling venues. Harrah’s is one of the few major US companies fully supporting the legalization of the market – the company has consistently voiced support for pro-internet gambling movements. At a recent board meeting of the American Gaming Association, Harrah’s essentially stood alone among the land casino gambling companies in its support of legal US internet gambling.

Harrah’s is such a proponent of the legalization of the online casino gambling industry, in fact, the company plans to openly support lobbying efforts and Congressional bills that concern the US internet gambling industry. The US has a viable internet gambling market that is now largely untapped since the foreign companies were forced out of the market by the UIGEA – legalization would mean the reintroduction of gambling sites and huge revenue potential for companies able to obtain a license to operate internet gambling services.
