Crossing the Line
The online casino gambling industry has really been expanding quite quickly over
the past two years and with the expansion of the industry into European betting
and gambling is causing some new problems that have not been a major issue in
the past. One controversial topic has really cropped up in recent weeks as a
result of a cricket commentators promotion of the Betfair land and online casino
betting services. This event has become a huge deal within the cricketing sports
sector but also has weight within every sector of the sporting industry there
is a concern that advertising specific companies during sporting events could
have a long-term negative effect on the integrity of the game.
The dispute covers a topic that is cropping up more and more lately where are
the boundaries for the online casinos and betting companies. The UKs liberal
advertising policies are having a trickle-down effect into other markets and
gaming companies are definitely beginning to employ more invasive and aggressive
marketing and promotion programs. Another factor in the advertising debates
comes down to the recession online casinos and betting companies are suffering
just like other businesses and new advertising venues is just one way for the
sites to gain more gamblers and punters.
But the International Cricket Council (ICC) is responsible for considering the
affect of the in-game advertising on the integrity of the game rather than on
the revenues of the online casinos and betting companies and with that in
mind, the ICC does not have a favorable opinion on the activity. The ICC is very
protective about the game and goes to great lengths to ensure that there is no
questionable betting activity on cricket matches from the players its not
likely that the ICC will budge on this point any time in the near future. |
