Taking Time for Change
The US government has a delicate situation in the works right now – listen to
the clamor coming from the online casino gambling industry and internet poker
supporters or solve some of the pressing economic issues facing the nation. It’s
a pretty simple choice really – internet gambling is taking a back burner over
the next few months while the new Obama administration handles the current
emergency situation related to the economic stimulus plan and bailout efforts.
Current US legislation that was passed through during the Bush administration is
in the process of reversal – unfortunately for the online casinos however, the
UIGEA is still going strong and there is no indication that the controversy over
this act will take any precedence considering the current US economic woes.
The online casino gambling industry though is used to the fact that patience is
needed – it’s already been nearly two and half years since the UIGEA came into
effect and even though the Act is hugely flawed and has sparked bi-partisan
controversy, there have been no effective moves thus far to end the UIGEA.
Ironically enough though, the global gambling industry and online casinos from
all over the world are very focused on the state of US internet gambling yet the
US is by far not the only country with bizarre and invasive gambling regulations
and legislation in place.
There is no indication at this time whether the Obama administration plans to
reverse the UIGEA and/or put a halt to the implementation of the UIGEA
regulations that passed through right in the last weeks of the Bush
administration. Online casino gambling supporters are optimistic though that
Obama will focus on internet gambling regulatory changes once some of the
economic crises has passed. |
