Stopping Spam in its Tracks
There really isn’t a person alive holding an email account that hasn’t
experienced the frustration and annoyance of spamming and phishing. The World
Wide Web is an ingenious invention that has changed the entire fabric of the
world and the way that individuals and businesses interact with the world around
them. But at the same time, with every positive there is an inherent negative
that must balance the scale. At only 15 years old, the Internet is still a beast
that has some serious flaws – fraud is one of them. Spam and phising emails are
sent to unsuspecting consumers and an increasing number of online casino
gamblers and then valuable information such as bank account numbers, socials,
names, credit cards, and more are all stolen – often later used for identity
theft.
Online gamblers at the Club World Casinos received a valuable warning this week
from the company – Russian spammers have sent an email to the company’s base of
gamblers suggesting that the gamblers should sign up for a new gambling site and
receive special incentives. This email is false and is merely looking to phish
information from the online casino gamblers.
A warning goes out at this point to the global online casino gambling industry –
do not follow links in emails. If there is a special offer, you will always be
able to view that offer by logging into your account and going through secure
channels. Additionally, if you already have an online account with internet
casinos, they will not request additional personal information via an email. All
of these requests and special offers are a form of spam and are the work of
fraudsters from all over the world looking to perpetuate identity theft.
