Online Casinos Protest
Age restrictions at the online casinos is a hot topic these days – the operators
of the gambling sites very pointedly claim that they are unable to effectively
block different ages in all of the differing countries around the world.
Allegedly, and perhaps factually, there is little software on the market right
now that is sophisticated enough to handle that sort of age sorting, blocking,
and verifying procedure. The operators at internet gambling sites would love to
push this issue off onto local law enforcement to handle – they use the age
verification software available and if that fails to adequately block underage
online casino gamblers then the task falls to local police.
This sort of situation though is precisely what causes so many concerns and
issues about the prevalence of online casino gambling all over the world – how
do you stop people from taking advantage of underage and problem gamblers. At
the same time – the laws all over the world have no consensus on the age issue
and the online casinos are relying on the trust system – not probably the safest
option. Internet gambling sites require players to check a box indicating that
they comply with age requirements in their country of residence.
Another issue is the fact that even the law has yet to really come up with a
solution to this problem. The age of the player in their place of residence is
most definitely the standard to use, but again, on who or what company does the
enforcement fall? This tough question could actually find resolution if the
online casinos are legalized and wholly regulated within foreign markets all
over the world – most of these minor issues crop up in third world countries and
regions where internet gambling is still sparse. |
