An Issue for Our Kids: 2
For Canada, the topic of irresponsible online casino gambling practices is a
pretty sticky subject. Canada is riding a tight line right now between
regulation and non-regulation and the time will come when the Canadian
government will have to make the choice about whether Canadian regulations and
legislation can be enforced over the Kahnawake Gaming Commission. The KGC will
vehemently fight against any restrictions, but some academics and government
officials are considering taking some definite actions to counteract that
reports that problem gambling stats could be on the rise because of a lack of
online gambling regulations.
Namely, the academics in Canada are pressing the issue more than any other group
or organization. There have been no conclusive studies as of yet to indicate
whether the allegations of increased problem gambling are true – but either way
the online casino industry is beginning to take the heat. That’s where
it all takes a screeching halt though for Canada – there is little room to
regulate considering the majority of the country’s online casino gambling
originates from the Mohawk tribe and their licensing and hosting practices.
The fact of the matter is, there will have to be a wealth of researched evidence
on the subject indicating that there is a pressing need to regulate before
anything to that effect will even make it through the first stages on the
Canadian government. Additionally, the issue of online casino gambling in the
United States – and any new legislation changes will also affect Canada’s
approaches and government actions in the long run. |
