Kentucky Land Gambling Key
Both the land and online casino gambling industries are in peculiar situations
all over the world – they are viewed as a negative to society in many
situations, but at the same time the revenue potential from regulated and
licensed gambling is huge and a big draw for many countries, states, regions,
and more. Although the Kentucky state government is completely against the
online casino gambling industry at this point, the government is apparently
heavily considering expansions in land gambling…perhaps as a way to flesh out
the government’s budget?
The online casino gambling issue has really waged on in Kentucky over the past
six months or so – and through it all the government has largely pushed the
issue as a way to protect land gambling interests and revenues. Like many US
states, the State of Kentucky is showing some shortfalls in the state budget as
a result of the floundering economy and the globally slowing market.
Recently, a bill was presented to the Kentucky House of Representatives. Speaker
of the House, Greg Stumbo, recently publicly noted that the expansion of the
gambling industry (through the race-tracks, not land and online casinos) was not
considered a priority right now and would not be immediately addressed in this
current legislative session. But then, surprisingly, the new bill was suddenly
passed through the House licensing and Occupations Committee. Support in the
house was overwhelming – gamblers too were overwhelmed by the speedy nature of
the situation sand some of the more nitty-gritty details. |
