Gaining More Recognition
Land and online casino poker gambling has gained a lot of attention lately as
the “skill versus chance” debates get a lot more interesting. Courts all over
the world have a really hard time classifying the game of poker – and a global
recognition of the game of poker as skill could really alter the regulations and
legislations related to this form of gambling. There is no doubting that the
online casinos are a game of chance – that’s the lure of slots machines and
other games at these sites. But for poker gambling, classification as a game of
chance has really reduced the spread of the game and has some poker
professionals and the such angered that so many countries refuse to officially
recognize the huge role that skills play in the game.
Interestingly enough though, the least likely country is beginning to turn the
tide of public opinion on the issue. Just last month a US court ruled that poker
was a skill based game and as such the two gentlemen facing prosecution were
free and clear. Now, another US court has weighed in on the issue – and the
verdict is largely similar. With the UIGEA in place, attempting to block US
gamblers from the online casinos and internet poker sites, the continued
classification of internet poker as a game of skill may be just the boost that
groups like the PPA need to reclassify the game and form an exemption for the
game of poker within the UIGEA.
The latest case took place in Colorado and the courts found the man not guilty
of professional gambling for his poker gambling activities. |
