Online Casinos Celebrate
The Kentucky situation has really caused quite a stir over the past four months
– the online casinos were worried that they would lose their domain names to
seizure attempts by the State of Kentucky. Then, when the entire case went to
the courts, the industry was amazed that Judge Wingate ruled that the domain
name seizure was legal for the online casinos that did not back out of the
Kentucky market within 30 days. This ruling was a major blow to the gambling
industry and to internet rights as a whole. And although many of the internet
casinos responded to the ruling by backing out, organizations like the PPA,
SBGlobal, and others decided to pool their efforts and fight the ruling.
Last month’s announcement that the Kentucky Court of Appeals appealed the
previous ruling was a major victory for the online casinos and the internet
poker gambling sites. The PPA really led most of the major force against the
Kentucky ruling, so it is with great relief and sense of victory that PPA
Executive Director John Pappas released a public statement about the victory in
the Kentucky cases. Pappas elaborated on the decision and the fact that it was a
positive development for the more than 130,000 Kentucky poker players that are
registered with the PPA.
The case was one by the online casino gambling industry in the Appeals Court and
now the ball has been thrown back to the State of Kentucky – there is no
indication yet if the Kentucky government plans to further pursue this issue. |
