Internet Trends for the Elderly
The Internet can be a really daunting place – just think if you were
transplanted from a mere 20 years ago into the present and you were forced to
explain some of the new social media developments like Twitter and Facebook. In
fact, even to generations that have seen the progression and development of
online social networking sites like these have a hard time fully grasping what
it is they do. That’s perhaps one of the key challenges senior citizens who use
the online casinos and gaming sites are facing – just when they think they have
it figured out there are more features and innovations knocking on the door and
altering usability.
Statistics have shown that the older age demographic all over the world are
increasingly turning to the online casinos and learning how to use the internet
as a communication tool to bridge some of the loneliness that creeps up in the
twilight years. But a big problem right now centers on the fact that some of the
elderly just can’t keep pace with the new innovations fast enough to make the
online casino gaming sites work effectively for them. In the past year nearly
every single major gaming site has announced a move into the social networking
arena. Instead of just connecting with friends and other gamblers on the site,
Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, and other sites are brought into the mix creating a
bit of confusion for gamblers who just like the steadfastness of the old
internet gaming communities.
By and large though, although some online casinos may be developing and changing
at too rapid of a pace, there is a lot of good coming out of this new move to
really connect senior citizens with the internet. From uniting families split by
distance via Skype to creating communities to find new friends, the internet
opens up a whole new world for the elderly. |
