In Prep for the World Cup
There are a whole lot of online casinos and internet gambling companies that are
vying for a slice of the South African internet gambling and betting industry –
but the government is stalling. For more than a year now the South African
government has been considering new regulations and a licensing structure in the
country that would welcome a controlled form of internet gambling into the
country. Most foreign online casino gambling companies have respected the
government’s request for adherence to the current ban – but with the outlook of
eventual licensing bleak, Victor Chandler stepped up its licensing efforts in
light of the pending World Cup. The World Cup is the largest and more
prestigious football (soccer) game of the sport and South Africa has been
honored as the spot for next summer’s big game.
That means though, that the South African government has really had to step up
its game to ensure that it’s ready for the huge influx of teams, sports
enthusiasts, and even land and online bettors. One of the top activities
associated with the World Cup is a lot of online casino betting activity, and
South Africa is preparing for that as well by officially licensing Victor
Chandler to operate in South Africa. The betting company will have the first
half of the year to really get all of the betting venues and processes in place
so that it’s all ready for the Summer 2010 World Cup online betting activities.
This is not to say that other online casinos and betting venues throughout
Europe wont be offering competitive odds for this huge game, but by licensing
Victor Chandler in South Africa (and specifically not licensing other companies)
VC will have a huge market share this summer. The licensing of VC is a great
first step for the country into the internet betting market and will likely
precipitate a strong move into the online gambling industry once the World Cup
ends. |
