Predictions 2010: US Edition
We’re going to take a moment over the next couple of days to look at where the
online casino gambling industry is headed in the New Year. With 2009 coming
firmly to a close many gambling companies are actually eager to leave some of
the worries and problems of 2009 in the past and start out fresh. In the United
States market though, the focus for 2010 is going to be markedly different, and
yet exactly the same as it has been for three years now. Despite a lot progress
on the Barney Franks new bill that is aimed at legalizing and regulating online
casinos, the bill did not pass and all of the industry is focused on this task
for 2010. This coming year the gambling industry plans to even more heavily
support Frank’s efforts to pass the UIGEA alternative legislation.
The US market has the potential to be incredibly lucrative if the right
legislation and regulations were in place – and that’s what the US online
casinos just cannot pass up. There are still internet gambling companies
operating heavily in the US market. These US facing sites are still able to
process transactions with US gamblers. In 2010 though, if Barney Frank’s
alternative legislation does not pass, the payment processing part of running a
US online casino gambling site could get a whole lot harder.
The UIGEA enforcement regulations have been held off until June 2010; at this
time the government will fully launch and implement all of the controversial
pieces of the UIGEA that will truly make it difficult for the online casino
gambling companies to not only take US money, but to also make any payouts and
withdrawals into US bank accounts. |
