US States Looking for Options
The United State has made international headlines over the past three years
because of its controversial policies regarding the online casino gambling
industry. As the US government continues to battle out the gambling industry and
decide how to best proceed in that regard, the US states are looking for
opportunities to legally enter the internet gambling industry through
intra-state gambling. The main piece of US legislation blocks the offshore
online casinos and inter-state internet gambling; new pushes within state
governments highlight the fact that these internet gambling sites can bring in a
lot of potential revenue to the state government to help fund social programs
and flesh out failing state budgets.
Massachusetts is surprisingly considering some online casino gambling options
through a new study while other states are looking toward internet betting as a
way to compliment their existing land horserace betting industries. Virginia is
not quite so adventurous but still aiming at joining the online casino gambling
industry in some regards. The Virginia Lottery has announced a plan to open up
into the world of online lottery gambling. According to most legal experts, as
long as the internet Virginia lottery sails only occur within the state of
Virginia and for residents then this legislation is not prohibited by any of the
current federal legislation.
The potential revenue from this is huge, the online casinos are a big bone of
contention in the US –gamblers want access to gambling from their homes. In that
way, although full chance gaming is not legal or offered, the Virginia lottery
will expand it’s offerings greatly and appeal to a whole new demographic. |
