The Numbers on the Elderly
Senior citizens are heading out to the online casino gambling sites in
overwhelming numbers these days, and it’s no surprise according to the research.
Elderly assistance programs are now placing a strong emphasis on building an
internet-savvy elderly demographic because of the large benefits to this
demographic, even outside of the online casinos. While there is no denying that
the elderly make up a strong portion of the land gambling industry, this trend
is true and perhaps even more important within the internet gambling industry.
The studies show that the online casinos, and the internet in general, are
keeping the minds of the elderly and senior citizens healthy. The internet is
really one big global communication tool and a way to share information and
build communities around similar interests. It’s this aspect of the internet and
the online casino sites that beneficially challenges and engages the minds of
the elderly. Think of the internet gambling industry as a huge Sudoku network
for senior citizens – they are engaging in thoughtful use of their brain while
also building a community through the online gaming sites.
And for as much as the stats show that the elderly are not incredibly
knowledgeable about the online casinos, that has rapidly changed in the past
several years and research out of Penn State University and the University of
Pennsylvania indicate that as many as 70 percent of the US elderly population
participated in some form of gambling over the past year – a number that will
likely continue to rise if internet gambling is legalized in the US. |
