US Illegal Online Casinos
The Absolute Poker scandal several years ago was the first time that the US
media really took a close look at the online casino and poker gambling
industries. And because of the scandal, the media did not have a lot of very
kind things to say about the internet gambling industry. That unfavorable
opinion is sometimes based on facts, but more often based on half-truths that
are perpetuated by a few key members of the conservative right. 60 Minutes was
the first show to really take an in depth look at the online casinos and present
that information to the US public. The 60 Minutes special really focused on the
huge scandal related to Absolute Poker and Ultimate Bet that rocked the entire
industry. Most recently, CNBC has now launched a show within North America that
examines the current US internet gambling industry and the fact that illegal
online gambling is still happening.
The entire thrust of the show is to present a full look at the illegal online
casino gambling industry in the United States – and that show has now aired and
reached a huge market of more than 95 million Americans who viewed the program.
In addition to highlighting the illegal online casinos operating in the US, the
show is really geared toward the investment sector and looks at the big business
of illegal internet gambling – it’s certainly lucrative but is it worth the
current risk? In addition to examining those in the online gambling industry who
have been prosecuted, it looks at the current state of internet gambling, the
legislation in place.
Barney Frank is the biggest proponent of online casino gambling in the US and he
has legislation in the works that would fully legalize and regulated the
gambling industry. Once new legislation in place the US industry would be worth
billions – and that’s a fact that has US investors interested. |
