Canada's Online Casino Demographic
The demographic of online casino gamblers is rapidly changing all over the world
according to industry research that has really been highlighted heavily in the
past several months. Although the land gambling venues have a very prominent
elderly demographic, the technology and internet access needed for the online
casinos has kept much of that demographic away from the gambling sites. More
recently though, and specifically in the past year or two, a large number of
senior citizens are finding their way to the internet gambling and bingo gaming
sites. This is particularly prominent in Canada right now according to an
article in the Toronto Star.
The senior citizen population has really begun to take to the internet – and
even the online casinos out of necessity as much as a desire to join the
internet age. New programs are cropping up on a global scale that teach computer
skills to the older generations. And one of the key reasons motivating this push
is the fact that computer and internet use can fight depression and isolation
according to recent research. Online casinos especially provide seniors with a
community – something they may not readily have if they are in nursing homes or
confined to their homes for much of the day.
The rate of senior citizens gambling at online casinos and bingo sites has
doubled annually since 2000 – and the rate is likely to hold steady because of
the natural aging of an already internet savvy generation. As the internet
gambling sites report more and more of this age demographic accessing the sites
its entirely likely that the industry will see far more programs and games aimed
quite specifically at the elderly and senior citizens within the internet
gambling community. |
