Calm US Hearing About Online Casinos
Congressman Barney Frank must be feeling a bit of contentment this week as the
online casino gambling issue has finally made it to full discussion in the House
Financial Services Committee. There are a lot of varying strong opinions in the
US about the internet gambling debate, and now resolution of some sort may be
closer than ever. The recent hearing held on December 3rd was actually quite a
bit of a surprise to many who are familiar with the often heated tempers and
accusations that are thrown around by the supporters and opposition. The hearing
though went swimmingly well as the committee listened to every facet of the
online casino gambling debate in five minute chunks.
Each person presenting an argument to the committee was given five minutes to
fully state their point and outline why they think online casinos should be
regulated or banned in the US – or something in between. All of the major
players in the debate were given an opportunity to state their case, naturally
that includes Representative Spencer Bachus and Barney Frank pointedly
representing the two sides of the debate. Other supporters of an open US online
casino gambling industry spoke, namely a representative from the US banking and
financial services industry.
The hearing lasted a full ninety minute and clearly covered every single one of
the main and key points in the online casino gambling industry debates. This
hearing was intended as a first step for the US Congress to really begin
considering the issues present in the US gambling industry. Used as an
introduction to the issue, rather than a hearing related to any specific bills,
this was a much needed start to Congressional actions within gambling
legislation. |
