Bizarre Kentucky Maneuvers
In what is rapidly becoming one of the most ridiculous legal situations of the
decade, the lawyers representing the State of Kentucky have announced that they
are still pursing the case in the Kentucky Supreme Court – but now they’re
adding in some new accusations. Although the state clearly has the losing case
in this situation, Governor Steve Beshear seems to have a personal vendetta
against the foreign online casinos and will not let the case end. The state’s
lawyers have long argued that the State of Kentucky has the right to seize 141
online casino domain names because the domain names themselves could be
considered “illegal gambling devices.” And since this tactic is wholly
ineffective at persuading the court, lawyers for the state now claim that many
of the domain names in question are actually owned by US citizens.
Funnily enough, although the state is making this claim, the lawyers have yet to
give any specific examples or show named proof that some of the online casinos
and domain names are owned by residents of the United States. That’s where the
situation takes a turn for the bizarre. What good does this new claim serve for
the state’s case considering the state lawyers have no evidence to back up those
claims?
iMEGA is the chief company working on behalf of the online casino gambling sites
named in the case, and iMEGA’s case is rock solid. The Court of Appeals strongly
sided with the iMEGA and the internet gambling companies – the State of Kentucky
is attempting to vastly oversteps its rights with the requested seizures. This
bizarre new addition by the state’s lawyers is likely just one last, incredibly
desperate attempt to win the failed case.
