More US Online Casino Woes
The US internet gambling and betting industry is just endlessly complex it seems
and it’s not getting any better as time passes. The UIGEA is the chief concern
between the online casinos and internet gambling companies all over the world.
But there are even problems on a more minute level that are just as disturbing.
The UIGEA has created a highly protected US market as far as betting is
concerned. Horserace betting is still legal and there are carve-outs in the US
federal legislation that allow for betting on certain sports, fantasy football
leagues, and other smaller markets. But now that more states are interested in
the online sports betting market the sporting leagues are pressuring the US
government to put a firm stop to that.
The fact is, although the US online casino gambling industry is banned while
internet betting is legal in some regards, not all of the US states even have
access to the betting carve-outs laid out in the UIGEA. Some members of Congress
and sports football players are actually petitioning that states like Delaware
and New Jersey should not be allowed to establish online sports betting regimes
within those states. Betting has been seen as an opportunity for state
governments to generate additional revenue for the budget.
But the state of Delaware is intent on expanding the state’s land gambling and
betting industry. Online casinos are taboo but there are carve-outs in place for
a reason and the Delaware officials have noted that they have every plan to over
single-game and parlay betting unless the federal government intervenes in the
situation. |
