Just last month the now infamous Green Dam software would have not only prevented Chinese citizens from accessing online casinos, but new information coming out indicates that the government also planned to use the software to prevent Chinese netizens from political discussions and critique as well.

The Green Dam software gained the notice of an international community because it would be an unprecedented occurrence in the global market. Net neutrality is a huge issue for nations all over the world but controlling governments like the Chinese government obviously feel that the internet is a tool for not only illegal online casino gambling, but also for the spreading of anti-government chatter. The international outcry at the announced implementation of the Green Dam software caused the government to rethink the implementation of this controversial internet censoring attempt – but the government has not agreed to halt all attempts at implementation, but rather just put a pause on the plans.

Internet neutrality is a huge issue completely outside of the online casino gambling issue. The Chinese government was looking for a way to put more controls on the citizens and block the huge community that is building of Chinese citizens in opposition to the government. So although the Chinese government assured the international community that the Green Dam software was primarily being implemented because of the online casinos and internet porn, there are quite obviously additional reasons.
