It's a Huge Unknown Market
The Costa Rican online casino gambling industry is a lot larger than many would
suspect just from thinking about the industry and the spread of licensing
jurisdictions and regulatory schemes in the varying countries around the world.
In actuality though, Costa Rica has been used as a base station for some time
now for the online casinos focusing on the currently illegal US internet
gambling industry. Additionally, although Costa Rica is now attempting to
legitimize the internet gambling industry with new regulations and legislation
designed to oversee the safety of those sites operating out of the nation, a
fair bit of fraudulent and questionable gaming activity often originated from
Costa Rica.
All of that is changing though and the more than 250 online casino gambling
companies based out of the country and operating in foreign markets will have
some much stricter regulations to deal with in addition to higher taxes.
Stronger government oversight is key right now and international gambling
organizations are calling for the Costa Rican government to use this unique
opportunity (the introduction of new gambling regulations) to really look deep
for solutions to some of the nation’s key problems in overseeing the online
casinos.
Right now, the regulations are still going through the government and will
likely take a bit longer, but for the foreign and international online casino
gambling industry, this is a huge step forward in creating a secure global
gambling market. As each nation all over the world begins to recognize the
revenue potential of internet gambling there is little chance that the market
will operate unregulated, as it did in Costa Rica, for long. |
