Support of the Tribes for Online Casinos
The tribal nations in the United States hold a large portion of the land
gambling industry in the United States. Because of attempts to create jobs and
equality in the US the federal government passed legislation many decades ago
that allows the Native America reservations to offer land gambling in accordance
with state laws. That means that in any state that has legalized land gambling
venues the Indian reservations are also allowed to open a brick and mortar
gaming shop.
Now though, the tribes are looking toward the online casino gambling and poker
industries and eying the profitability in these markets. The US currently has
some pretty terrible gaming policies and the tribes are a part of the movement
to force the US politicians to address the blatant flaws in the UIGEA and stop
the blockage of financial transactions between online casinos and US gamblers.
Specifically supporting the online poker industry rather than also looking to
make money through the internet casinos, the Morongo Band of the Mission Indians
in California are pressuring the state to legalize internet poker throughout the
state. The theory in the US right now holds that the UIGEA is a federal piece of
legislation that can only be applied so far as gambling is concerned that
crosses state lines and international boundaries. Internet poker though is a
game of skill and the key argument these days centers on the claim that in-state
internet poker gambling could be legal at the federal level if it only caters to
residents of that particular state. |
