Online Casino Regulations Stalled
There has been a lot of talk in Europe about the opening of the Spanish online
casino gambling market; in fact, several of the big internet gambling groups
have even already begun to prep for entry into the market. But for all of the
talk that Spain was in the process of devising new gambling regulations, it
looks as though it could still be quite some time before the these regulations
are solidified – and some are speculating that it just isn’t going to happen any
time soon! The drafting of workable regulations has proven harder than expected
and there is some pretty big confusion about the relationship that will exist
between national regulations for foreign online casinos and regional licensing
requirements.
Some pretty major companies have shown confidence that the online casino
gambling industry is imminent in Spain: Bwin, William Hill, and others. But
where is this confidence coming from? Surely not the news that the lottery
operators are pessimistically moving forward with more drafting attempts?
Insiders are not very confident about online casino gambling regulations anytime
in the near future. In fact, it could be as long as three years out or more
according to a Spanish company that manufactures games.
The European Commission has been really focusing on the Spanish market in
negotiations and attempts to help the country draft regulations that will create
a free and open online casino gambling market that abides by EU policies. This
is easier said than done though because Spain still wants to hold control over
the gambling market while also finding a way to allow limited and licensed
access to the Spanish internet gambling, betting, and bingo market. Although
some gambling companies are still optimistic, analysts feel that there is only a
pie in the sky chance of new regulations passing. |
