Gambling Safety 5: Preventing Online Casino Fraud
Preventing fraud is a huge concern for online casino gamblers and the safety of
their account funds. The internet gambling sites are safe on many levels and the
issue of problem and underage gambling has been tackled extensively on every
side of the issue – from regulations to new software. But the emerging concern
in the international gambling industry is the safety of account balances at the
online casinos. Because the internet gambling market is a tad volatile as
international governments attempt to block and control their markets some
gamblers are worried about account money seizures. This is largely a concern
because of the tactics used by the United States over the past three years.
The controversial US online casino gambling industry has given the US
government, namely the Department of Justice, the power to seize and freeze the
funds of payment processing companies that do business within the internet
gambling industry. This first happened in 2007 with Neteller. The US DoJ froze
the account funds and it was many, many months before gamblers had those account
funds returned. The latest situation in California indicates that online casinos
and internet poker sites in particular are still not entirely safe from DoJ
action even though the power of the UIGEA is weakening.
The US actions in regards to the online casino gambling industry have created
fear throughout the rest of the gambling industry as well. European and UK
gamblers have admitted in polls that they are also worried about the reach of
the US DoJ and the stability of the internet gambling sites against US actions. |
