Reimbursing Gamblers
Online casino gamblers in the United States are undoubtedly quite surprised this
week as the US government has announced that it is releasing some of the
forfeited funds that have become available in the BetOnSports ongoing debacle.
BetOnSports has made headlines over the past several years as the US continues
to wage war on the online casinos and internet gambling sites that operated in
the US market prior to the UIGEA. The case has really not gone very far, and
certainly not quickly, but Gary Kaplan pled guilty to his charges this year and
agreed to forfeit $43.65 million in funds.
Online casino gamblers deserving a piece of those funds and with an actual legal
claim can petition a Missouri Federal court for a part of the payout. Only this
year has the Federal government made any progress with the BetOnSports case and
money laundering, fraud, and a host of other charges have faced the founders and
operators of this business. The company was based out of Costa Rica and the
court now released information that those at the top were all mainly a part of
the Kaplan family.
David Carruthers is still awaiting a trial in the case because he has pled
not-guilty. Kaplan will face sentencing in October but it will likely be fairly
light considering he has already served under house-arrest and pled guilty to
the criminal charges and paid out the millions in funds. The online casino
gamblers are encouraged to contact the courts if they sincerely have a valid
claim to some of the money forfeited in the case. |
