Where's the Promised Change
The United States was a globally focal point nearly a year ago as the battle
lines were drawn and the race for the US presidency was in full force. The
candidates were making their cases and making campaign promises. Barack Obama’s
platform of “change” sold a lot of people. That is precisely what America needed
after eight years of Bush in office. But the idea of change might be a bit more
short lived than some in the online casino gambling industry had hoped. Although
Obama made a point to note that he supported a free and open internet, eight
months into the new year and the online casinos are wondering where that promise
went.
There is certainly the consideration that President Obama cannot tackle
everything all at once and the wars, economy, and health insurance reform have
taken up a lot of focus and effort. But the online casinos are now coming to
realize that Obama might not have been any better a choice than Bush when it
comes to supporting an open, licensed, and regulated online casino gambling
industry. Although the internet gambling issue in the states is really heating
up, Obama has not come forward with any more mention of the industry nor his
support of a free and open internet market.
The online casinos and internet gambling companies are feeling a bit lost now –
where is the change that was promised with this new administration? Although
Obama never openly supported the internet gambling industry during his
campaigning, he did specifically talk about freedom from censorship online. But
the Department of Justice is more active than ever and Obama’s promises are a
bit of a distant memory. So much for change. |
