Policies are Set
Macau is not expecting a lot of changes in policies over the next couple of
years despite the fact that a panel has announced that Fernando Chui is the new
Chief Executive Officer for the island. Macau right now is in a precarious
situation because the island nation is one of the fastest growing international
land casino gambling markets, but online gambling is taboo and the economic
slowdown has hit the Macau gambling industry pretty hard. This new announcement
of a gambling chief for the island comes as a bit of a surprise, the previous
officer was in place for the past ten years, every since China took over control
of Macau and started the process of making this island a top international land
casino gambling destination.
Interestingly enough, Chui was chosen because he will keep the status quo and
there is not a lot that he has to do in the way of new policies and new efforts
for developing the Macau land casinos. The new gambling chief was chosen by a
300-member-panel from Beijing. Chui is the former culture minister and now will
take his place overseeing the gambling industry on the island of Macau. Macau is
very strong in the land gambling industry and although there have been rumors of
a small online casino gambling industry perhaps launching from the island,
China’s control over Macau makes that highly unlikely.
Chui will not rock the boat either where the online casinos are concerned. Chui
himself announced that Macau’s strategies and plans for the next several years
have already been developed and he will merely oversee the implementation of
this plan. |
