Mission Indians are Interested
The Mission Indians are interested in being on the front edge of this move in
the State of California toward online poker specifically – internet casinos are
a lost cause until there are federal changes. The ability to offer internet
poker will give the Mission tribe a competitive edge and increase the financial
viability of the company. There are two sides to this debate however and there
is no telling if California will go so far as to legalize poker in light of the
federal government’s recent seizure of funds from an internet poker operator in
the US.
The movement in the tribes in California is swift and strong. The California
Tribal Intrastate Internet Poker Consortium LLC is now actively meeting and
members from each tribe are participating in drafting a proposal to the state
that would ask that the tribes could legally offer access to the online poker
industry in California. Because the online casinos are so taboo in the US the
tribes are largely staying far away from that issue, but internet poker seems
like a very attainable goal considering the California government is already
actively and seriously considering the legalization of internet poker.
A little twist to the whole situation is the fact that some California tribes
are claiming neutrality in the situation and even more intriguing are the card
rooms that are teaming up with the tribes to convince the government to allow
internet poker in the state. The tribes are looking for active ways to branch
out from the land casinos and the online gambling industry is a perfect
opportunity for expansion and growth. |
