They Found the Loophole
The Chinese netizens are paying pretty close attention to that which the
government is trying to do to squash the internet voice of the people. The Green
Dam software was allegedly going to be implemented as a way to further block the
illegal online casinos from the country. Netizens though and others found that
the government actually planned to censor as many as 600 political words with
the filtering software as well. Although online casinos are a big concern for
the Chinese government, the real issue is about remaining in power now that an
increasing number of political protests are rising in the country. Analysts have
predicted that the government is in for a rocky road this year as the Chinese
citizens start to become much more vocal against the absolute control that the
government exercises.
The rest of the world is calling it an online revolution of sorts. The Chinese
government has a huge amount of power in the country because there are no true
elections and, on top of that, there is no media oversight feeding information
to the people and checking into the government’s actions and legislation. That
is a chief reason why the Chinese government was almost able to implement the
controversial Green Dam software under the pretext of blocking online casinos
from the citizens of the country. In actuality, just as many feared, the
government actually had plans to close political debates in the internet arena
with the software. That is a key part of keeping the citizens of the huge nation
under control, the lack of information.
The online casino gambling industry is against the law, but that in an of itself
is not the problem, it’s the fact that the internet is such a pervasive medium
and the Chinese government is losing the ability to keep information out of the
nation now that the internet is such a key part of international business. |
