Huge Online Casino Jackpot Looming
The Dutch government is not winning any friends this month as the government
continues to pursue protectionist policies that block foreign online casinos and
gambling sites from the Dutch market. The question is not so much the fact that
the foreign companies are blocked – that would be fine if all internet gambling
and land betting were illegal; but that is not the case. The government is
actively blocking and banning online casino gambling companies because of
competition for the state-run monopoly. The government is looking to protect the
Dutch gaming market from competition; this may be in direct contravention to
European Union policies, but that has not stopped the government from continuing
to aggressively pursue this action.
A big problem though that many countries are finding though is that the online
casinos are pervasive and hard to effectively curtail without the support and
action of the banking and financial services industry. The Dutch government has
now just once again sent out a demand to the British banking industry that they
stop processing transaction with Dutch citizens. The online casinos were not
very lucky – the Royal Bank of Scotland bought into the threats and has stopped
transacting with some internet gambling companies.
The European Commission is not pleased that the Dutch Minister of Justice is
making these new threats. Should the British banks not comply with the new
demand then the Dutch government has announced that it will take more drastic
legal action to stop the online casinos from accessing Dutch gamblers in the
future. |
