Irish Lovin' on Poker
The Emerald Isle is a mystical place of old that evokes images of fairies and
silkies, misty castles and poker. Wait, poker? Yes, Ireland has been crowned the
European Poker Capital this year for the second time. Dublin in particular was
crowned the capital and the city just beat out London for the honor. Ireland is
a country that is rapidly growing its own land and online casino gambling and
poker gaming industries. There is not a lot of internet gambling legislation
firmly in place yet, but the government has not stopped the poker industry from
flourishing in its capital. One of the key requirements for the winning capital
was a government that was not operating a land or online casino gambling
monopoly and a city that had a lot of poker friendly venues and poker events.
London only narrowly lost to Dublin for this honor from the land and online
casino poker gambling industries but in the end it’s the enthusiasm of the Irish
themselves that seems to have won them the award. They love the game of poker
and offer up a huge variety of gaming venues within the capital city and the
organized tournaments are par none – the Irish Poker Open has really grown in
prestige over the past several years and increasingly popular with native Irish
gamblers as well as professionals from the rest of the international land and
online casino poker gambling industry.
The passion and enthusiasm of the Irish have won the award for Dublin again this
year but the Bluff Europe representatives deciding on the awarding of the title
note that it was really a close call between London and Dublin and that it’s
likely that this rivalry will exist for quite some time as the two cities duke
it out for the European Poker Capital award each year. |
