Illegality Not Stopping Online Casinos
South Africa has really had a hard time of it over the past several years; the
country has long held offshore online casino gambling as illegal. Now though the
government is actively working on new legislation and regulations that will
bring out a larger but more controlled internet gambling market. The timing
though just isn’t quite fast enough to curb an influx of illegal online casinos
offering services within the South African market. There is a huge push right
now and South Africans themselves are just not really willing to wait for the
government to finalize the regulations, then go through the licensing process
before the online gambling sites are able to legally operate.
The impatience of the masses as well as the offshore online casinos unwilling to
wait for the new licensing system are to blame for the surge in internet
gambling. The real problem though is in the fact that the market is expanding so
rapidly without the control of the government. The online casino gambling sites
operating in the market are doing so without the controls and strict regulations
that are in place throughout much of Europe and the UK. That means that underage
gambling is becoming a big problem in the South African market and one that the
government would do well to solve rapidly, before it worsens.
The lengthy regulation process is really causing concern now that the figures
are being released about the sheer size of the current illegal South African
online casino gambling market. It is enormous. And the underage gambling is a
growing concern. The South African market is a gem right now for the more
unscrupulous companies willing to operate in the market despite the government’s
request that companies wait until the regulation is finalized and
implemented…but what the heck is taking so long? |
