Online Casinos Gonna be Taxed
The world of regulated online casino gambling may not be quite as rosy as some
internet gambling companies have anticipated over the past couple of years.
Internet poker is big on the agenda right now and there is a very good chance
that new poker regulation could pass through into law in the next several
months, but the internet poker sites should prepare themselves for a good deal
of taxation in their future as the US government considers legalizing internet
poker. The newest internet poker bill is being pushed into Congress by Senator
Robert Menendez and there is a lot of hope that it could actually pass.
The new measure is specifically related to the internet poker sites rather than
the online casinos and the proposal is looking to levy a ten percent tax on
internet poker and other games of skill that operate in the country. The gaming
operators are going to face this hefty tax and one thing is pretty much a given
– the online casinos and poker sites will try to defer some of those costs onto
the gamblers. That means that the glory days of large poker pots and games may
be a thought of the past as the game changes a bit to fit the (hopefully) newly
regulated market.
Barney Frank and Menendez are both working on separate but compatible gambling
bills that are aimed at reversing and repealing some of the powers of the UIGEA
and instead introducing a legalized and more effective system of control for the
online casinos. |
