Delaying iMEGA's Online Casino Efforts
The online casino gambling issue is heating up in the United States and several
of the ongoing cases and issues are coming to a near-resolution. But only nearly
a resolution because delays keep popping up in several areas and all of the
avenues are seeing some problems. iMEGA went the court route against the UIGEA;
the association challenged the legitimacy of the UIGEA on grounds that the act
was very vague and should not be implemented and enforced in the United States
because it is highly flawed and unclear. iMEGA has progressed with the case for
some time now and made it all the way up to the US Third Court of Appeals – it
is here though that iMEGA announced that there is a possible delay and the
outcome is could be less ideal than initially anticipated, a blow to the online
casino gambling industry.
iMEGA has built a strong case against the UIGEA and has a lot of evidence and
proof that the UIGEA is flawed and unenforceable as currently written. The Act
is designed to prevent illegal offshore online casinos transacting with US
gamblers. But a key issue lies in the fact that “illegal internet gambling” is
not clearly defined anywhere within the Act. iMEGA has highlighted this fact in
all of the lower courts as a key point of contention in striking down the vague
UIGEA.
But this recent court has made some unexpected choices regarding a line of
questioning and iMEGA is now quite worried about the outcome and what this means
for the US online casino gambling industry. iMEGA anticipated a certain line of
questioning from the judges on the case and, when those expectations were not
met, the case is a little shakier than previously thought. |
