Coordinating the House and Senate
The US is closer than ever to new regulations and legislation pertaining to the
online casino gambling industry. The UIGEA is currently the chief piece of
legislation dictating US policies and actions and there are some very obvious
and key flaws within the UIGEA that prevent it from effectively governing the
US’s internet gambling market. Barney Frank has taken the lead in the US with
efforts to repeal the UIGEA and introduce new legislation that will legalize and
regulate the US market. Congressman Frank’s efforts have been really centered in
the House, and he now has the support of Senator Robert Menendez on a bill that
will make its way into the Senate at the same time as Frank’s house legislation.
Menendez’s companion bill mirrors Frank’s legislation and is intended to speed
up the process that will be needed to pass new online casino gambling
legislation in the US. Congressman Frank is the head of these efforts and is
very focused on passing through new legislation that neutralizes or repeals the
UGIEA while then giving the US an enforceable and effective Act that will
improve on the current international online casino gambling controversy that is
focused on the US.
Menedez has not given a time-frame for the introduction of this companion bill,
but the Poker Players Alliance was very enthused to report on this new bill in
relation to the pending discussion on Frank’s existing bill that is up for
discussion during the next Congressional session. There is a hope for the online
casino gambling industry that these coordinated and strong efforts will actually
affect some very real change in the US. |
