A More Competitive Concession
The French online caisno gambling industry is still in the preparation stages of
launching the new internet gambling regulations that should take effect in the
very beginning of next year. The European Commission has worked with the French
government of drafting inclusive regulations that take into consideration EU
policies regarding free trade. Beyond that though, the internet poker industry
had some concerns with the new French regulations because of a high poker tax on
the internet poker stakes that would have made the foreign online casino poker
sites uncompetitive with other poker games on offer.
The French government was surprisingly responsive and took into consideration
the repeated pleas and information provided from the online casino poker
gambling industry. The poker industry pushed the government to alter the tax on
internet poker to a slight degree for the government, but a big degree for the
sites. Now, internet poker sites that are licensed to operate in the French
market are subject to a two percent tax on the pots in the poker games. The
previous tax language would have taxed the online casinos and poker sites a
whopping two percent on the player stakes themselves.
Although it may seem like just a little adjustment, the outcome is likely to
really allow the online casino poker industry a stronger foothold and profit
margin in the emerging French market. Not everything though is rosy about the
proposed French regulations, there are several companies and organizations that
are still taking exception to specific areas of the regulatory law – those are
being hammered out over the next several months before full implementation of
the French regulated gambling industry. |
