Licensing TV Brands
The United States market is clearly closed to the online casinos at this point
and there is no indication that this legislation is going to clear up. That
doesn’t mean though that the international gambling groups aren’t keen to get a
piece of the Hollywood brand licensing deals that have proven wildly successful
in the European internet gambling industry. Fremantle Media has just announced a
new licensing deal with MGM movies that will allow this major European TV,
production, and radio company to lease out themes to companies and online
casinos that operate wholly within the European market. The US market is off
limits and MGM has stipulated that the branded content may not be licensed to
online gambling sites that offer content to US players.
Fremantle has scored quite a deal though because branded content is certainly
all of the rage right now and the licensing deal with MGM gives the media
company access to Metro-Goldwyn-Meyer films. Some of the popular themes now
available for licensing from Fremantle include the popular and recognizable
“Robocop” bran and “A Fistful of Dollars.” Fremantle has specifically taken an
interest in developing addition merchandizing for the company and the online
casino gambling industry is wildly lucrative right now because the industry is
in a bubble of rapid growth for about five more years according to analysts.
This is certainly not going to be the first brand licensing deal developed by
Fremantle; the company has already developed online casino games for popular
American titles such as “American Idol” and even the wildly popular US game show
“The Price is Right” has a Fremantle developed game. The deal is quite ideal for
Fremantle because the company has the option of either developing the branded
content into land and internet games, or Fremantle can license out the brands
and themes to other companies – including online casino software development
companies. |
