Victory for Online Casinos
The European online casino gambling industry has scored a new victory this week
with the announcement that Denmark is finally going to comply with the European
Commissions demands. The Commission has been rigorously working on leveling the
internet gambling playing field in the past several years and has encountered a
lot of issues from the countries running state monopolies. For years now Denmark
has been one of the EU member states that has refused to comply with the EU
regulations. It took the Commission the threat of action in the European Court
of Justice to sway the state government to deregulate some of the fierce
restrictions that have kept out foreign competition for other land and online
casinos for decades.
The news though released the information that the Danish government is seriously
moving itself toward a free economy and new regulations that would allow foreign
online casinos to actively compete with the Danish company that has had sole
access to the Danish gamblers for as long as six decades according to the
estimations. Now, Danske Spil will still operate for the Danish online casino
gamblers, but there is every indication that new regulation is in the works.
The move is certainly not entirely voluntary by the Danish government, but the
threat of action at the ECJ has really struck home and the Danish officials are
choosing to err on the side of caution, hedge their bets, and re-regulate land
and online casino gambling in the country. The Danish market is potentially
very, very lucrative for the foreign land and internet gambling companies. |
