A Stronger Licensing Industry
The small island nations of Antigua and Barbuda are in a really unique position
– the countries are seeking additional access to the European and US market yet
they are only right now revamping some of the out-dated regulations that concern
the new online casinos seeking licensing. The Directorate of Offshore Gaming
announced that efforts are now being made to introduce new regulations and
compliance requirements for online casino gambling operators. The internet
gambling industry is one of the more high-risk industries because of risks
related to fraud and money laundering.
Antigua has billed itself as a top licensing jurisdiction and has used this
distinction to entreat the US government to introduce new legislation that would
once again allow Antigua access to US gamblers. With stronger regulations,
although it is unlikely that Antigua would gain the approval of the US
government, there is a chance that a tighter regulatory framework will raise the
licensing jurisdiction’s esteem within Europe and the UK. The UK online casino
gambling industry has very tight requirements and restrictions for allowing
gambling sites access to advertising opportunities.
Stronger regulations in Antigua can only be a positive move for the online
casinos licensed in the jurisdiction – they will gain more credibility and more
access to foreign markets. Additionally, the regulations are not just a product
of the government’s decision, but rather the collective input of all of the
internet gambling companies licensed out of the jurisdiction. Because of the
collaborative nature of the new regulations it is anticipated that they will
benefit both the gambling sites and the government in strengthening the
regulatory environment in Antigua. |
