Support from the Right

US politics is one of those areas that is better left unbroached in polite company – a lot of people have opinions one way or the other and moderates are much more few and far between than die-hard liberals and conservatives. Interestingly enough though, the two sides are actually coming into agreement on something as controversial as online casino gambling. The Republican right is responsible for the enactment of the UIGEA and since that time the democrats (led by Congressman Barney Frank) have been making strong efforts to neutralize or repeal the UIGEA and instead legalize and regulate offshore online casinos within the US market.

Recently, the conservatives have been increasingly showing their support for Congressman Frank’s efforts to introduce new legislation that would counter-act the UIGEA. Although many conservatives are not actually in support of reintroducing wide-scale online casino gambling into the country, the alternative is not entirely pleasant. The UIGEA is aimed at blocking offshore internet gambling in efforts to protect underage and problem gamblers. What has actually happened though, is that the UIGEA has forced the foreign online casinos into the black market and an entirely unregulated environment under the radar of the US government.

For this precise reason the conservatives are rapidly beginning to show their support for Frank’s bills that address the UIGEA and seek to regulate the US online casino gambling industry. Protection of the nation’s youth is a big concern on the conservative agenda and a regulated gaming market has proven, all throughout the world, as more effective than attempts to block the pastime.
