Not Yet in Recession
A new report indicates that most of Eastern Europe may not have entered the
global recession yet which has affected most of the developed world. The US, UK,
and Western Europe are all suffering the effects of the recession: job loss,
loss of market and revenues, rising costs of basic goods and services. But for
the online casino gambling industry the recession has had a surprisingly small
effect thus far – in fact, profits are still on the rise for the industry.
Global Betting & Gaming just released a new report on 17 countries in Eastern
Europe with an in depth look at their current and possible future gambling
markets – it looks pretty good for the online casinos seeking entry into these
markets.
With broadband internet access spreading rampantly throughout Eastern Europe,
the internet age is upon the region and online casinos are a logical next step
for most of the countries. Several prominent countries have already legalized
and licensed internet gambling in an effort to draw in new revenues into the
state coffers. And for the countries that still don’t allow online casino
gambling? For many of them it’s in the works right now, so it’s just a matter of
time.
Online casinos can currently legally enter the Czech Republic, Slovenia and even
Slovakia. Following suit is Croatia and Bulgaria; both of these countries plan
to legalize online casino gambling in the coming months. So is there a viable
market? The answer is a resounding yes. Croatia is just one example of the
Eastern Europeans’ propensity toward gambling, Croatia boasts four times the
number of gambling shops per million people than the UK. So online casinos
seeking out new markets should surely turn their sites to this emerging market.
