Recession NoGo
One of the many conferences that was on the schedule for the online casino
gambling industry, SiGNAL 2009 (the Summer iGaming Networking and Learning
Conference) has been canceled as a result of the recessive economy. With profits
lower than usual, the online casinos are keeping their executives close to home
instead of shelling out the money needed to send them to Malta for the
conference that was scheduled to take place between May 19th and the 21st. This
sort of cancellation comes as a bit of a surprise to many – Clairion Gaming
reports that the registrants for the conference were low and without enough
conference attendees there was no reason for executives from the online casinos
to make the trip.
Clarion Gaming is one of the top conference organizers in the online casino
gambling industry – the company is responsible for organizing and running at
least half a dozen annual conferences that cover a wide range of topics and
sectors of the gambling industry. This year’s SiGNAL event was going to be an
opportunity for the event attendees to really focus on some very specific
aspects of running successful online casinos and gambling sites. Some of the
topics that would have been covered included customer retention discussions as
well as exhibitions, and other areas of the industry. All of the discussions
were to focus on small groups so that there was a higher level of participation
for those involved from the online gambling industry.
Unfortunately though, although many online casinos have announced continued
profits and revenues throughout the past year, the global economy is still in a
recession and this fact is certainly causing a bit more caution to be exercised
when spending money of things that could be considered “extras.” |
