There are a few things in life that are just either, or – in the case of
personal computer preferences there is definitely a lot of heated debate between
Mac users and those with PCs. This is really the one main problem that Mac users
run into – they may have the smoother operating system but because they are a
huge minority in the market, all of the major software is released for PCs – and
that includes the online casino gambling industry. The situation is looking
pretty dire lately for Mac users since the US market is still closed to offshore
online casinos. Only in the US does Mac have noticeable share of the market,
outside of the US though Mac’s penetration into the market is still nearly
negligible – and that means that Mac compatible software in the foreign market
isn’t very likely.
According to market data, the online casino gambling industry has really no
driving need to provide Mac-compatible software. Although Mac has a 15 percent
share of the US market, offshore online casinos are illegal and so the major
gaming developers have little reason to take this market into consideration.
Those few developers that do cater to the US market still consider the Mac
market too small to generate the profits needed to cover the expense.
Mac market penetration outside of the US is very small – coming in between the 3
percent and 5 percent mark, foreign online casinos have no real reason to
release Mac compatible games. At this point, Mac users wanting to gamble through
the internet will have to be content with browser-based gaming using Flash
technology. The games selection is much smaller but because the games are
browser based Mac users can access them.
