The Keep Thing
Online casino gambling in China is illegal – there is no other maybe/if/and/or
but about it – it is illegal and the Chinese government is looking for ways to
seriously cut down on illegal gambling operations. The nation has made industry
headlines over the past couple of months because of the number of successful
internet gambling ring busts. Another 11 individuals were arrested this week in
connection with an online casino gambling ring operation that took in bets of as
much as USD $73 million. These gambling rings are in direct defiance of the
controlling Chinese government and all off those found guilty in the operation
of the gambling ring will face hefty fines and jail terms.
The illegal online casino gambling site was based out of the Philippines and
integrated into the underground Chinese betting ring by a wealthy Chinese
business man. The business man, not wholly identified yet but referenced by his
surname, Li, was the Chinese contact for the illegal online casino betting ring.
The police have not yet released all of the specifics of the gambling ring but
noted that 11 people were arrested for their alleged involvement in the gambling
ring.
Those Chinese citizens who gambled at the online casino gambling ring are
largely off the hook, but the police department noted that this particular
gambling ring was primarily used by wealthy local businessmen who were likely
using their company expense accounts to fund their internet betting habit. Li’s
online betting establishment was very convenient for the wealthy businessmen who
were seeking out a way to place bets and wagers without traveling to the nearby
legal gambling jurisdiction of Macau. Now though, Li will face the penalties for
his gambling operation in the Chinese courts where others in similar situations
have received the maximum penalties and jail terms. |
