Online Casinos Take Heat
The online casino gambling industry really takes a lot of mud slung in its
direction from a variety of organizations and nations from all over the world.
As merely an extension of the land gambling industry the internet casinos
provide gamblers with a way to experience the slot machines and table games
right from their own homes. Despite the rather innocuous beginning of the online
casino gambling industry more than a decade ago, it has become a really major
issue that is plaguing countries all over the world as they work out new
legislation and regulations that address this invasive medium. In Australia, the
government has really just decided to make internet gambling a major issue in
need of handling.
The result has been controversial. Australia’s Communications Minister, Stephen
Conroy is pretty much on the attack and is looking to block online casino
gambling through ISP censorship so that Australian internet users can not even
view the sites, let alone gamble through them. Conroy has made not illusions
about the fact that he is not a fan of the internet gambling industry –
including internet poker and most of the other sectors. Conroy is now in the
middle of a media frenzy as his public comments on iiNet are angering some in
the industry and causing heat among other ISPs.
The ISP censorship plans are still in the testing phase and iiNet dropped out of
the trial claiming the government’s continually changing policies conflicted
with iiNet’s socially responsible corporate policy. This naturally has angered
Conroy and the entire censorship and online casino gambling blocking issue has
taken on whole new levels of absurdity. |
