The online casino gambling market in the United State is still off limits for
both domestic and offshore internet gambling companies, but one of the largest
land casino companies in the world is hedging its bets and moving into the
internet gambling arena. Harrah’s Entertainment operates a slew of the largest
and most lucrative resorts casinos in the world. Based out of the US though,
Harrah’s has yet to enter the online gambling industry although the company is
very vocal and public about its support of a legalized, licensed, and regulated
US market. The latest news out of Harrah’s indicates that the company is tired
of waiting for new US legislation and will move into the internet arena in the
coming months with the help of the former CEO at PartyGaming, Mitch Garber.
Garber was a very strong presence in the PartyGaming online casino gambling
group – his vision and strategies allowed the company to overcome the costly
withdraw and restructure in the wake of the UIGEA. Garber no longer works with
PartyGaming and has instead accepted the position of Head of Internet Operations
for a move into the online casino gambling industry as well as heading up the
internet presence of the World Series of Poker. This major event attracts the
attention of online casino poker gamblers from all over the world and Harrah’s
has a mind to optimize the brands Web presence.
Garber was a strong choice considering his extensive previous experience in the
online casino gambling industry. Harrah’s contends that there is just a short
bit of time left before the US market is legalized and licensed, and Harrah’s is
looking to be one of the first domestic companies in the queue for a gaming
license.
