Industry Charity Drive
The giving spirit seems to have struck PokerStars this week (either that, or the
company has looking for a great way to generate a good deal of positive media
attention – likely a combination of the two, really). PokerStars has announced
that the online casino poker gambling site will team up with the National Hockey
League to offer a huge charity event. The land and online casino gambling
industry is really great about using the wide-spread appeal of gambling to
entice gamblers to donate money and play poker for a cause. Annual events take
place all over the world and millions are raised in support of these various
charities. In this case, the NHL and PokerStars will host a charity poker event
to benefit both the Ronald McDonald House and the NHL Players Association’s
Goals and Dreams. PokerStars is a huge name in the international online caisno
poker gambling industry, and although internet poker is illegal in the US
market, PokerStars will still sponsor this charity poker event and assist in
raising funds for these two noble and valuable charities.
The land based poker charity tournament is scheduled to take place at the Palms
Hotel in Las Vegas in mid-June. PokerStars will likely promote the tournament on
its online casino poker gambling site and will entreat internet based poker
players who can not make it to the charity poker event in Vegas to still
contribute funds to the two charities. As a way to entice a large number of
poker players to attend the event, PokerStars and the NHL have announced that a
slew of big celebrities and athletes will compete in the poker event and lend
their celebrity statuses to the cause.
The charity poker tournament is not particularly aimed at the land and online
casino poker gambling industry but rather will operate in conjunction with the
annual NHL awards ceremony. The NHL feels that it is most positive for the
sports league to tie the two events together in efforts to raise awareness and
funds through a well-attended annual event. The poker tourney will take place on
June 18th. |
