Land and Online Casino Poker Dangerous
Gambling in Malaysia is just one of those things that you have to be really
committed to the game to attempt. The Malaysian government has come down really
hard on the online casinos and land gambling operations that have been busted in
the region in the past. And with this past precedent, it’s a wonder that some
individuals attempt to run illegal online casino sites while others, like the
current case, were busted for a high stakes land-based poker tourney. One of the
main reasons the police were able to raid the poker tourney – the details were
posted online…not the best way to attempt an illegal operation under the radar
of the police.
The Malaysian police were able to arrest 25 individuals in the bust – most
between 18 and 30. The poker players registered online according to the police
spokesman, and even “banked in a fee to enter the tournament,” and then were
able to access all of the poker tournament details. The police used that
information to then raid the apartment building where the tourney was scheduled
to take place and arrest all of those involved in the running and operation of
the game. Online casinos are illegal in Malaysia and although land gambling
operations can often fall under the police department’s radar, in this case the
information was just too accessible to go unnoticed.
In addition to arresting the 25 young adults and college students involved in
the tourney, the police raided the premises and seized all of the laptops, cash,
poker tables and other gambling paraphenlia that was scattered around the place
in anticipation of the poker tourney. Right now the 25 people arrested have been
remanded so that they police can further their investigation into the illegal
poker tourney.
This should serve as a clear warning to other land and online caisno gambling
operators in the area – the Malaysian government is not going to look kindly on
this sort of indiscretion. |
