Media Attention for Ban
The Washington State government has just made a move that is a bit extreme even
for them. In the United States, Washington State is one of the strictest
countries in terms of online caisno gambling bans – this is the only place in
the world were merely gambling at the online casinos is a major offense. To
additionally protect the state land gambling interests and further ban internet
gambling, the state has sent a message to the public relations firm PRWeb to
order a Cease and Desist on all press releases coming from the company that
relate to the online casino gambling industry. PRWeb just released a press
release to state that the company was going to adhere to the state’s request and
take the same line as some of the other major players in the industry, Google
and Yahoo!, and stop marketing efforts to online gambling related companies
until more clear federal and state legislation passes.
This new move could actually cause some significant profit losses for the
company because marketing and PR efforts for the online casinos accounted for a
significant part of the company’s business – as much as five percent according
to some estimations. This is just the latest debacle to take place in the US
online casino gambling industry – the federal government is all mixed up on the
issue and Kentucky, like Washington, is trying to take a very tough line with
the online casinos.
This new Cease and Desist of press release distribution applies to all of the PR
firms operating in the Washington market – PRWeb is just the first to have
received the letter because the company very blatantly does business with the
online casinos. Contracts that were signed by PRWeb with the internet gambling
companies have been broken and monies repaid – the precise cost of this new
development is unknown but, luckily, PRWeb operates within other industries and
other clients. |
